Wedding Location Permits

 

It is no secret that the permit process for San Diego County wedding locations is confusing. There are different rules, permits and fees for weddings in each specific city. Some cities allow standing room only elopements and weddings for small groups without a permit, and other do not. Permits are always required if there is any setup of chairs, arches, music or decorations. Some cities allow us to pull the permits for the locations, which we can include in our wedding packages, and others require that the couple handle the permit details themselves. We have included some helpful information on location permits below.

Permits, Rules & Regulations
  • Permits are not required for our Elope San Diego Wedding Packages at select areas for 20 guests or less
     

  • Permits are required if there is ANY setup of wedding equipment, chairs, arches or canopies, decorations, music, or rose petals
     

  • Permits for wedding locations in the City of San Diego, Sunset Cliffs, Mission Beach, Mission Bay, The Embarcadero, Balboa Park, Harbor & Shelter Island, and La Jolla are included in our Full-Service packages
     

  • Permits for Centennial Park & Bayview Park in Coronado, and Seagrove Park in Del Mar are not included in our full-service Wedding Packages

 

  • Permits for California State Beaches and State Parks are not included in our full-service Wedding Packages
     

  • Only one permit per day is issued for any one beach, coastal park or cliff location
     

  • Permits ARE NOT issued for legal holidays or over major holiday weekends (Memorial Day Weekend Sat / Sun / Mon, July 4, Labor Day Weekend Sat / Sun / Mon, Cesar Chavez Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day)
     

  • Alcohol and smoking are prohibited at all San Diego beaches, cliffs and parks. Smoking is permitted only in designated smoking areas
     

  • Silk rose petals, bird seed, rice, fireworks, sky lanterns, and balloons are prohibited at all our wedding sites. DRONES ARE NOT PERMITTED AT THE WEDDING SITE!

Receptions & After-Parties

We are seaside wedding "ceremony" specialists. Wedding receptions are NOT included in our wedding packages and are NOT allowed on our permits for San Diego wedding sites. This includes any kind of food, water, alcoholic or soft drinks, catering services, picnic companies, hors d’oeuvres, veggie trays, sandwiches, food trucks, barbecues, desserts, cupcakes, wedding cake, etc.

 

Receptions are held at a separate venue that the couple would arrange. To help with this portion of the wedding planning, all our Easy, Breezy Beach Weddings™ include a Preferred Vendor list with reception venues near the ceremony site!

Coronado Beaches & Parks

The beauty of Coronado Island is unmatched, but the City of Coronado Park & Recreation Department does not allow the coordinator to pull the permit for their wedding locations.

 

Permits for full-service Wedding Packages for Coronado Centennial Park and Bayview Park are not included in our packages.

 

LOCATION PERMITS for FULL-SERVICE wedding packages must be filed by couple! For full-service Coronado weddings, the couple is required to apply for and purchase the permit themselves ($785-$1,035).

Elopement Packages are offered at South, Central, North & Coronado Dog Beach every day with no permit required for very specific areas of the beach (no setup; 20 guests max)

California State Beaches & Parks

The State of California does not allow the coordinator to pull the permit, so all permit filing and payment of fees must be arranged by the couple.

Permits for Full-Service Wedding Packages on Carlsbad State Beach, South Ponto State Beach, Torrey Pines State Beach, Torrey Pines State Reserve, and Cabrillo Lighthouse are not included in our wedding packages. These locations are not available from Memorial Day thru Labor Day.
